Four Seasons sees no need to change tradition of elephant polo for guests at Thailand tented camp.

Guests staying at Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle in northern Thailand March 23-30 will have the opportunity to train and actively participate as players in The King's Cup Elephant Polo Tournament. Non-playing guests can watch the (slow) action. This is a nine-year-old annual charitable event that raises money for the country's National Elephant Institute.

Four Seasons takes a humorous approach to the event, noting that one rule is: "Elephants can't lie down in front of the goal line."
Asked about the message of playing a royal game on a royal animal in a rough economy, Four Seasons spokeswoman Maria Kuhn said, The Cup is no different from any other luxury travel. It's not a frivolous exercise but a long established event and judging by the 14 teams that signed up for it it doesn't seem to be strongly affected by the economic situation."
    So pack your trunks...
